Dental Implants Vs. Dentures and Bridges

Today, there are many reasons why people will lose a tooth and require tooth replacement. In the case of tooth loss, people now have a number of options for tooth replacement. Dental implants, dentures, and bridges are popular tooth replacement options. Before you decide which option is best for you, it is important to understand the differences between your tooth replacement options.

Dental implants are a more involved tooth replacement process. It normally takes 2 to 3 dental appointments to place the implants and there is usually a 2 to 6 month period between the first and second appointment. This is due to the need to allow the dental implants to integrate with the bone. Dentures will normally be installed in 2 appointments which can be done within a week. As well, a dental bridge can be installed within a week.

When it comes to improving teeth and mouth function, dental implants will completely restore function allowing the person to chew and speak normally. Often bridges and dentures will move around and sometimes they can be a somewhat uncomfortable. As well, sometimes dentures will slip out when eating and talking. Dental implants prevent deterioration of the bone and stop the lower portion of the mouth from collapsing. The appearance of dental implants is more natural looking than dentures and bridges.
Dental implants are known to be the most durable of the options because when they are properly taken care of they can last a lifetime. Bridges last on average about 10 years and dentures usually last between 10 and 15 years. For a patient to have a long lasting dental implant, they must have good dental and oral health. Sometimes a person will have to go back to the dentist for proper adjustment of dentures or bridges.

Dental implants are much easier to clean and maintain when compared to dentures and bridges. It is just the same as brushing and cleaning natural teeth. Dentures and bridges will require additional care and cleaning in order to prevent gum infections. Although dental implants cost more than dentures and bridges, they make for a sound investment because they look natural and can last a lifetime when properly maintained. With the added care required for dentures and bridges, there will be added costs. Dental implants are also very durable and their ability to prevent bone deterioration makes them well worth the investment. As well, dental implants make it easier to maintain optimum dental health.

Dental implants can provide a permanent dental solution to the problem of missing teeth. Although more expensive than dentures and crowns, dental implants offer a better quality of life which includes an improved appearance, a beautiful smile an unlimited choice of food, an incredible increase in confidence and self esteem are part of interacting with others so we all want to have the confidence to engage in such acts without feeling insecure about how we look. Because oral health care is as important as the care we give to other areas of the body, it is important that we understand the various options available when it comes to replacing missing teeth.

Amazing! I would love to know the different ways of saving your teeth with out the false teeth. I really wanted to save my teeth before I will resort to tooth extraction. The insurance leads for insurance agents would also be willing to take note of this. Thanks.

This is a great match up. These two procedures are the best choice that you can have to bring back your perfect white teeth but for me dental implants are better. I believe that it is stronger and will last longer.

Dental implants are replacement of tooth roots. Dental Implants provide a strong foundation for removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth. When a tooth is lost the specialized bony process that houses the tooth begins to resorb due to lack of stimulation. This causes a decrease in width and height of the bone in the area the tooth is lost. Neighboring teeth and opposing teeth begin to move into the space. This causes food lodgment, subsequent decay, gum disease and abnormal forces being transmitted to teeth leading to fracture of cusps which may necessitate root canal treatment or extraction. Loss of teeth can also cause the cheek and lips to collapse giving an aged look.

One of the most popular reasons to visit the dentist these days is to explore whitening options for your teeth. Many people have habits and consume products that stain teeth. Coffee, tea, wine, and cigarettes are all common culprits that can cause unsightly discoloration or stains on your upper and lower teeth. This can be improved or even completely eliminated with advances in whitening techniques and technology. Teeth Whitening has become a popular and cost-effective way to dramatically improve the appearance of your smile in a short period of time.

Dental Implants Today feel and look so natural that you will rapidly forget your past problems with missing teeth. Unlike dentures, which can be removed, implants are permanently anchored into the jaw itself. You are a good candidate for implants if you have jawbone ridges that are in good shape and healthy tissues. In some cases, we recommend boi implants, which need minimum bone material.

Most folks who have have broken dentures may feel the only option is to get new dentures. However, denture repairs are
available for those who may want to fix their dentures.

Dental implant today are root-form endosseous implants, i.e., they appear similar to an actual tooth root (hence the term "root-form") and are positioned within the bone (endo- being the Greek prefix for "in" and osseous referring to "bone").

Dental implants feel and function just like your natural teeth. They are permanent fixtures of titanium posts, which are anchored to the jawbone and topped with individual replacement teeth or a bridge that screws or cements into the posts. A bridge is a dental restoration that spans an area that has no teeth and is connected to natural teeth at each end. A typical bridge consists of a filler tooth that is attached to two surrounding abutments or crowns. After completion, this bridge structure is then bonded into the mouth.
